Temporary BRAZIL left 13 dead and San Pablo flooded


The storm that hit southeastern Brazil since last Monday has killed at least thirteen dead in the state of Sao Paulo and has plunged into chaos to the country's largest city, today dawned large areas flooded by the overflow of a river.

The regional fire department said in a note that since Monday night have been accounted for two people drowned in Sao Paulo and eleven others killed in house collapses and landslides of land in various municipalities in the state.

Five of the dead were women from the same family who died early today at his house collapse caused by heavy rainfall that occurred in the city of Sao Jose dos Campos, which is about 75 kilometers of the regional capital. In the town

"Seven regions of the capital are on alert for possible landslides," warned the head of Civil Defense, Jair Paca de Lima, told Globonews television.

Tiete River overflowed and flooded some sections of the main road Sao Paulo ring, causing huge traffic problems in the morning in this metropolitan region inhabited by 20 million people.

Some vehicles were stranded by the flooding of the river and in many parts of the city there were also floods, according to television pictures showed.

Since the rainy season began last November, at least 24 people have died from floods, landslides and collapsed homes in the state of Sao Paulo, according to official counts. EFE
